Gaslighting is a form of emotional abuse that’s seen in abusive relationships. It’s the act of manipulating a person by forcing them to question their thoughts. Victims of gaslighting can be pushed so far that they begin to doubt their reality.

Spotting the signs of gaslighting is not always straightforward as the behaviours can start in very subtle ways. Signs to spot include:

Blatant lying and cover ups

  • Actions that contradict words
  • Feeling like you have to defend reality
  • Denying conversations ever happened
  • Manipulating others to see you differently
