How does counselling work?

In order for Kalmer Counselling to help each and every one of our clients, no matter how old you are, your issues or needs, we have to have an approach that can be tailored to meet everyone’s unique individual needs.

At Kalmer Counselling our therapy is unique in that we do not have one prescriptive approach, we tailor our sessions to the issues or needs of our clients. We promote a therapeutic approach that embraces Integrative therapy. This means we can use a wide range of techniques from different modalities that can help empower you to change your life. Techniques that encompass your entire being including both the mind and the body. Our counselling will positively impact your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
We enable our clients to develop a deeper understanding of who they are, a greater awareness of how they feel, explore the possibility of creating personal choices and encourage self-awareness and self-realisation.

Sessions last 50 minutes and cost between £50 - £65.

Number Of Sessions

Every person has a unique journey when it comes to their mental health and the support they need. The first six weeks of therapy focuses on identifying issues, symptom management and developing coping strategies. After the initial six weeks, Kalmer counsellors are then able do deepen the work and evolve personal awareness.

Do you have male counsellors?

Many of our male clients prefer a male counsellor and likewise, often a female counsellor is preferred. At Kalmer Counselling we have a great mix of counsellors and we are able to accommodate such requests.

Contact

We will contact you to arrange an assessment and allocate a therapist.

First Session

The first session is an assessment where you are able to inform us of the current situation and the concerns you have about your child. We can do this over the phone or in a one-to-one session. During this assessment, we will set a date for your childs' first counselling session.

Confidentiality

All sessions with your child are confidential so we won't be sharing the detail of the sessions. However every six weeks we will have a parent review session where we will give professional insight and provide an open non-judgemental space to discuss your child's mental health.

The sessions

The first 12 weeks of counselling is known as short-term work where counsellors will make an assessment, gain an understanding of issues and focus on building a therapeutic relationship. In the sessions, we will use play and creativity as children and young people often find it hard to express and verbalise what is going on for them. Every child is different and their response to counselling may fluctuate. Therapy is an emotional rollercoaster and it is positive for your child to release any kind of emotion. The sessions are conducted one-to-one with your child, but if they are highly anxious it is possible for you to attend the first few sessions until they feel comfortable.

Long Term Therapy

If a child is to continue their counselling beyond the initial twelve weeks we will begin to deepen the work. Its at this point we start to address the core underlying issues by using tailored tools and techniques.

Response to therapy

Every child is different and their response to counselling may fluctuate. Therapy is an emotional rollercoaster and it is positive for your child to release any kind of emotion.

Don’t be surprised if your child is quiet, sad, angry, happy or excited after their session. We all respond differently to therapy and it is important your child is allowed to express this in order to emotionally regulate
