Contact UsTherapy at Kalmer can change your life! By creating a space to explore you, your needs, your life, dreams and desires you can change your mindset and develop feelings of happiness and positivity. Kalmer Counselling is an accredited organisational member of the BACP and was formed to meet the need for a therapeutic service, delivered by qualified paid counsellors, which was designed specifically for schools and private clients across the North East.
Therapy/counselling has a connotation that you have to have a mental health issue to access it. NO... therapy is one of the most amazing gifts you can give to yourself. You allow yourself the time & space to realise your worth, work out your strengths/weaknesses and gives you the power to change your life. One of my missions is to break down the shame and stigma attached to addressing mental health & mental wellness. Please don’t sit in silence if you’re suffering reach out and know that you have the power to change your life.
Kalmer counselling is also a service that adults can access. We provide a high quality counselling service from anyone aged 5 - 105. Mental health can be negatively affected no matter our age, that's why its so important to create a space to address your worries and concerns so you can take control and charge of your situation. Our mental health impacts our physical health yet we wouldn't think twice about going to the doctors but accessing therapy to treat our mental health can be so difficult.
Life can be challenging, hard and cruel at times which can take a negative toll affecting our mood, behaviours, relationships, productivity and sense of worth. Its so important to address things early on in order to contain our experiences and tackle the root of the problem before things spiral out of control.
Taking the first step is the hardest but once you do I can guarantee you wont regret it.
Children and young people can find it hard to vocalise or even find the words to define their thoughts, feelings and problems. How they communicate their inner world is through external behaviour, which can manifest itself in ways such as withdrawal, sensitivity to situations and regression. Most commonly it can be experienced as disruptive behaviour for example, temper tantrums, bossiness, frequent arguments, control, moodiness, irritability and physical aggression.
Giving children and young people the time and space to explore their internal world can help them to understand their struggles, thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It can also help them to work through and relearn stages of emotional and psychological development, heightening their awareness of self and their own belief systems.
As part of the therapeutic process, we use a diverse range of creative media and play as it enables a clear channel of communication to emerge allowing the child to naturally express, explore and convey themselves by using an avenue that is in essence their preferred way of relating.
Creativity gives rise to the process of self-expression and fosters mental growth. It provides opportunities to try out new ways of thinking, new ideas and develops problem-solving skills. Creative activities help the child to acknowledge their unique abilities.
Spontaneous, self-directed play is a vital part of healthy child development. Play helps to relieve stress and pressure enabling children to be themselves without having to adapt to the wants and needs of those around them. It offers children a chance to achieve mastery over their environment. Their imagination enables them to control their experience employing the powers of choice and decision making. Play conveys the child's unique personal response to their environment, facilitating the freedom to try out new ideas as well as build upon and experiment with old ones.
