JOB TITLE: Counselling Manager

HOURLY RATE: £20 - £25 (£39,000 - £48,750 FTE) Term time only
TOTAL HOURS: 37.5 (5 days including clinical work and supervision)
JOB PURPOSE
The Counselling Manager is responsible for the operational and clinical oversight of counselling services for children (age 4+), young people and adults. This includes managing counsellors, ensuring safe and ethical practice, maintaining service quality, and meeting organisational and regulatory standards.
The role combines leadership, clinical governance, service and staff development and safeguarding responsibility.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITES
- Provide the necessary support to the therapeutic counselling team to ensure the service delivers professional and ethical interventions.
- Create an environment and culture where the therapeutic team deliver and evolve an effective and high-quality service that meets client needs.
- Provide appropriate guidance and direction to ensure the service is compliant with the relevant legislative ethical policy and procedural requirements.
- Ensure the service’s waiting list is appropriately managed, taking account of risk factors while managing client expectations.
- Maintain and develop external relationships that will extend the influence of Kalmer Counselling and benefit the client’s needs.
- Embrace and develop internal relationships, ensuring information is shared to allow the effective operation of Kalmer Counselling.
- Promote and develop the counselling service by writing funding bids for tendering processes.
CLINCIAL WORK
- Maintain a small client caseload to develop and maintain your professional skills, using these to provide effective supervision and act as the point of clinical escalation for the service.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Recognised counselling qualification (Diploma/Degree level or equivalent)
- Accredited or registered member of a recognised professional body (e.g., BACP, UKCP, NCPS)
- 4 years post-qualification counselling experience (including working with children and young people)
- Experience of managing a team of staff
- Extensive knowledge and experience in working with neurodivergence
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and risk management
- Knowledge of UK data protection and confidentiality requirements
- Experience of tendering process for funding streams
